History/complain:  Bitch is in heat from 10-12 days but no blood discharge (spotting) from vagina . But bitch stands to be mounted . Keep in mind this bitch is  kept on soil. Feed of bitch is Milk and bread. Now  owner came here

in UVAS A-block therio clinic and interested to know the time for mating of bitch so that it should be fruitful.

Clinical Exam:

   Bitch was healthy and active. No apparent abnormality was seen. Vulva of bitch was swollen.

We performed vaginal cytology of bitch to know the cornification status of vaginal squamous epithelium.

Vaginal Cytology:

    A sterile swab was used for taking vaginal epithelium sample. Swab was rotated inside the Vagina along the wall of vagina. During swabbing blood discharge was observed. After swabbing slide was made and was fixed with alcohol and stained with Gimsa stain for 10-15 mins and than obserced under oil immersion lens.

 Results: more than 80 % of cells were cornified. So it was very good time for mating. We suggested the owner for two matings . 1 today and day after tomorrow.
