Post Abortion Handling of Goat (with Open Cervix)


  • 2 days past 
  • Aborted at 2M of pregnancy with no Apparent cause
  • 5th parity (with no previous history of abortion or dystocia) 
  • Handled Per vaginum to pull the fetuses and Placentas
Examination: 
  • Straining and Bleating
  • Temperature 102 F
  • Anorexic

U/S: 
  • Hyperechoic fluids & Structures
Vaginoscopy:
  • Lacerated vaginal mucosa with the onset of necrosis and Pus formation
  • Cervix was Open 

Description:
There was no apparent cause of abortion in the history viz, medication, stress, or improper feeding. and idiopathically the goat aborted past 2 days of presentation in the clinic and upon vaginoscopy the wall of the vagina was lacerated, necrosed, and pus was seen (due to improper handling),
Ultrasound revealed Hyperechoic fluid (pus) and other structures (remnants of Placentae) Temperature was normal (101.3 - 103.5)* , but the infection was suspected due to onset of Anorexia and improper manipulation.

Treatment:
  • Delmazine (PG) - 1 mL
  • Oxytocin - 0.5 mL
  • Encure (Enrofloxacine) - 1 mL 
  • Gurh or Sugar inclusion in feed (increase the involution rate by increasing the smooth muscle contractions of the tract)
