History:
a black colored cow was presented with the history of deep anestrus. animal parturated about a year ago and never came in heat again, according to owner.animal was also presented about 8 days ago at 21-10-2014.
P4(progesteron) therapy was suggested in decreasing doses. as follows:
21-10-14.............4cc
23-10-14.............4cc
25-10-14.............3cc
27-10-14.............2cc
29-10-14(today)...............animal is in heat.
owner claimed that vaginal mucous discharge was seen yesterday.
Treatment:
ultrasonography performed.
11mm follicle observed on right ovary.
we decided to wait for 24 hour.so that follicle could grow upto 13mm and ovulate.
AI will be done after 24 hours if follicle growth observed
also GnRH will be administered to enhance chances of ovulation and consequently conception.
otherwise ovsynch protocol will be followed.
Discussion:
P4 administered because animal was in deep or true anestrous (acyclic)
acyclic animals are usually treated with progesteron.
when given in decreasing doses it act as CL. body assumes that CL is regressing as P4 level decreases gradually.
and atlast ovulate.the same thing happened in this case.
tomorrow GnRH will be administered along with AI because it helps in delayed ovulations. Moreover, its better to administer GnRH along with AI when ovulation has not yet occur.
