C32- Post Pyometra treatment breeding of the elderly Nulliparous Mare

Hx:

• Mare 
• 8 years of age
• Nulliparous
• but 5 times Conception failure
• History of pyometra

Previous treatment: 

• Ciprofloxacin 5 days

U/S today: 

• 35.5 mm of follicle on the ovary
• Normal layers of uterine wall
• Small amount of the hyperechogenic Uterine fluid 

Rx:

• Recommended to breed after 30 hours, 
• + Inj. IVFC.5000 - IV

Discussion: 
           Previously treated for pyometra, this mare is ready to breed now because the uterine layers are normal and the small amount of the hyperechogenic fluid may be due to heat or if abnormal, may be flushed during the estus. IVFC (hCG) is given to cause ovulation.
